When a horse develops hoof problems, it's tempting to look for one solution. A different supplement. A new feed. Different shoeing. More or less turnout.
But the reality is that hoof health is rarely determined by one factor alone.
Nutrition plays an important role, but so does movement, pasture and stable management, trimming or shoeing, workload, genetics and the horse's overall health.
That is also how we look at hoof health at Trombofeet. Our products provide targeted support, but they are always part of a bigger picture.
Support starts with understanding the horse
Both Healthcare & Sport and Grow have been developed with a specific purpose.
Healthcare & Sport is designed to support horses with sensitive feet and hoof comfort, while Grow provides nutritional support for stronger, healthier hoof growth.
But neither is intended to replace good management, appropriate nutrition, professional hoof care or veterinary treatment when needed.
Why? Because supporting the hoof without considering why a problem is occurring may only address part of the picture.
Nutrition and hoof growth go hand in hand
A horse needs the right nutritional building blocks to produce strong, healthy hoof horns.
Proteins and amino acids, vitamins, minerals and trace elements all contribute to normal hoof development. An imbalance or deficiency can therefore affect hoof quality.
This is where targeted supplementation can play a role, particularly when a horse needs additional nutritional support.
Grow is developed specifically to support healthy hoof growth from within. With carefully selected nutrients including biotin and vitamin C, it supports keratin production and provides nutritional support for strong, resilient hooves.
But adding a hoof supplement to an otherwise unbalanced diet doesn't automatically make that diet balanced.
The starting point should always be the horse's complete ration.
Management matters too
What happens outside the feed bucket is just as important.
Hooves are continuously influenced by their environment and by the way a horse lives and moves. Factors such as excessively wet or dry conditions, movement, footing, pasture access and regular hoof care can all affect hoof quality and comfort.
A horse with recurring hoof problems therefore deserves a broader look.
What is the horse eating? How much time does it spend on pasture? How much does it move? What is the condition of the hooves? Is trimming or shoeing appropriate? And has an underlying medical cause been ruled out?
Sometimes the most important change isn't another product. It's identifying the factor that keeps contributing to the problem.
What happens inside the hoof?
There is also more happening inside the hoof than we can see from the outside.
Inside the hoof, a complex network of blood vessels helps supply the sensitive tissues between the hoof wall and the pedal bone.

When circulation changes and pressure builds within these tissues, there is very little room for swelling because the hoof capsule cannot expand. This can contribute to increased sensitivity and discomfort.

This is one of the areas behind the development of Healthcare & Sport. Its formula contains a carefully selected grape seed extract and is designed to support healthy circulation and normal vascular function within the hoof.
But supporting the hoof itself is only part of the picture.
When hoof problems have an underlying medical cause
This becomes particularly important when dealing with conditions such as laminitis.
Laminitis requires veterinary assessment and appropriate management. Nutritional support may form part of a broader approach, but it should not be seen as a substitute for identifying and addressing underlying causes and risk factors.
Depending on the individual horse, that broader approach may include changes to diet or pasture management, professional hoof care and treatment or monitoring by a veterinarian.
In other words, simply adding a supplement without addressing the factors contributing to the problem is unlikely to provide the complete answer.
Supporting the hoof and addressing the cause need to go hand in hand!
Healthcare & Sport is a nutritional supplement, not a medicine. It is designed to provide targeted support as part of a broader approach to hoof health, not to replace veterinary care or good management.
There is no one-size-fits-all hoof solution
Every horse is different. And so is every hoof problem.
A horse with brittle, slow-growing hooves may need a very different approach from a sport horse experiencing sensitive feet during an intensive competition period. And a horse with an underlying medical condition requires yet another approach.
That is why we believe supplementation works best as part of a broader view of hoof health, one that considers the horse's nutrition, management, hoof care, workload and individual needs.
At Trombofeet, our products are developed to provide targeted support where it is needed:
-
Grow: For stronger, healthier hoof growth.
-
Healthcare & Sport: For sensitive feet & hoof comfort.
Neither is a one-size-fits-all solution. Instead, they are tools that can form part of a considered, individual approach to keeping your horse's hooves healthy and comfortable.
Because ultimately, healthy hooves are built through all the choices surrounding the horse!
